Billy Bazuaye: Ex-Nigeria coach passes on

The Nigeria football family has again been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nigerian coach, Willy Bazuaye, who passed away Monday at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City.

Bazuaye, who shot into limelight after leading the Nigeria U17 team, the Golden Eaglets, to win the World Cup at their level in China in 1985, was terribly ill in his last days, teamA9F gathered.

Aside his feat at the China 85 World Cup, Bazuaye also has his name etched on the sands of time as he was part of the backroom staff as an assistant coach when the Nigeria under-23 team made history at the Atlanta Olympic Games, emerging the first African country to win the gold medal in the football event.

It is unclear if paucity of funds played any role in Bazuaye’s death as in the course of the past week, there was an appeal on social media for financial help from his son.

He said his father was rejected at the hospital due to a lack of funds.

Until his death, Bazuaye always lent his voice to football issues and his last major public appearance was on the celebrity segment of the “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” television show two years ago
