How Onazi secured Champions league football for Lazio

The Nigerian who came in as a substitute scored his first goal of the season to ruin Rafael Benitez farewell party.

Lazio overcame host, Napoli, 4-2 in Naples to secure the final Uefa champions league slot in Italy after Champions, Juventus and Roma had earlier booked their places for next season.

Both sides came to this encounter needing a win to seal their place with Napoli tipped as favorites, playing in front of their home crowd and coach, Rafael Benitez with a point to prove before his summer exit.

But this was not the case as the pendulum swung in favor of Stefano pioli's men which meant Lazio finished above their opponents in the Serie A table and beat Rafa Benitez and his men to the final Italian Champions League slot.

With the game tied at 2-2 apiece, Onazi came on in the 84th minute for Danilo Cataldi and scored one minute later to put Lazio 3-2 up before Miroslav Klose put the game to bed in two minutes of added time.
The 22-year old had a not-too impressive season appearing 19 times for the Rome based side with most coming as a substitute. He was booked on five occasions.
Onazi is expected to be in Nigeria this week in readiness for the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Chad in Kaduna.
