Eaglets too strong for host, Niger

Golden Eaglets of Nigeria got off to a winning start in the African U17 Championship after they defeated hosts Niger 2-0 Sunday afternoon.

Striker Victor Osimhen gave the Nigeria U17s the lead after 18 minutes, before skipper Kelechi Nwakali doubled the advantage two minutes later through a free kick goal.

In the second half, Niger fought hard in search of goals but the Eaglets did well to contain them.

Nigeria’s next game will be against Guinea on Wednesday, while their final group A match will be on Saturday against Zambia.

The semifinalists will qualify to represent Africa at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup to be hosted by Chile in November.
