Oliseh- Mikel has been avoiding me

Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh has revealed why Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel was not on the list of invited players for the match against Tanzania on September 5.

The former Nigeria skipper expressed that he has not been able to reach the Chelsea midfielder despite all his efforts even after his messages and a visit to London.

“Till now I have not spoken with Mikel,” Oliseh began in his interview with the NFF’s official website.

He continued: “I have contacted him on several occasions with no reply; sent him an SMS with no reply, went to London where he plays in the same club with Victor Moses, Moses came to the meeting we spoke but he (Mikel) didn’t come, I eventually told Moses to say hello to him.

Though Oliseh has made efforts to get across to Mikel he was quick to state that no player is indispensable and thus would not go around trying to cajole any player.

“No player is special, every player is the same, every
other player we contacted and spoke with have been invited them. ” Oliseh stated.

The Super Eagles Coach said he would not hastily pass judgement on Mikel even though there have been outrage in several quarters over Mikel’s perceived lackadaisical attitude to national team matters in recent years.

“I cannot really pass judgement on a player I have not spoken with, so that is it for now,“ Oliseh concluded.

Mikel has not played for Nigeria since the Super Eagles missed out of qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup Nations hosted by Equatorial Guinea but has been listed in Chelsea's last two premier league games against Swansea and Manchester City.

What Happened on Matchday 24 in the Glo NPFL? Read all about it here

Matchday 24 of the Glo Nigeria Premier league was no short of non stop action from the 12 teams that battled for points, there was premier league action in cities like Kastina, Taraba, Portharcourt, Owerri, Bauchi and Aba...

Well, we applaud the remarkable improvement in the level of competition in our league, a feature that has seen teams go away to pick up all three points. But matchday 24 did'nt greet us with much goals, as none of the encounters produced more than 2 goals.

Star Match

The star match of the round was between table toppers #Enyimba int'l FC and the Sai Masu Gida boys and defending league champion #Kano-Pillars FC at Aba, definitely a mouth waterinfg encounter, it was'nt short of entertainment, drama and controversy.

Enyimba started the game smoking as they took the game straight to their vistors, attacking from all angles in a bid to reclaim top sport in the league.

Former league golden boot winner Mfon Udoh came close with a shot that went off target in the 19th minute as the host continued to pile pressure, it was'nt untill the 27th minute that Enyimba got their breaktrhrough..

A cross from Daniel Etor glaced through the pillars penalty area, Pillars defender Bala Mohammed rose to head clear but a then he appeared to have touched the ball with his hand in the process, a deafening shout of "handball" as both Enyimba players and fans seemed to be in sync with the situation, refree needed no consultation with his linesman as he promptly whistled and pointed to the spot.

Stand up Ifeanyi Geoarge! the attacker stepped up and converted with ease from 12 yards, beeming with smile he ran towards the Aba screaming fans, knelt down as he got mobbed by teamates, the people's elephant where one up and it was to stay that way to the end.

The game continued to be action packed with the likes of Kingsley Sokari and substitute  Mfon Udoh being a constant menace to the Baba Ganaru led Pillars but there was never going to be an increase in the tally.

A string a wasted chances and poor team work from pillars ensured that they never did get back in the game.

While Pillars will blame the defeat on inspirational keymen like Rabiu Ali and Moses Ekpai missing the encounter, Enyimba will be happy to see they can grind out victories without their inspirational captain Chinedu Udoji.

With the victory Enyimba overtake Sunshine stars at the sumit of the log, while Pillars 6 game unbeaten run is brought to a halt as they remain 5th.

El-Kanemi Warriors 0-0 Warri Wolves

At the Kastina Township stadium, the Borno Warriors could not sneak anything past the Warri Wolves defence led by super-eagles defender Azubuike Eguekwe, it was a daunting encounter for the boys from Borno as all efforts to get an opener proved abortive, given that their visitors decided to part the bus instead of going all out to score.

The host kept mounting pressure on the vistors in a bid to avenge the 5-0 loss the suffered ehen they went away but simply could not get the desired breakthrough.

A boring game by all standards, match finished nil-nil to the disappointment of the home fans.

Dolpins 1-0 Sunshine Stars

Dolphins kept their hopes of staying one more season in the Nigeria premier league alive with a lone goal victory against high flying sunshine stars.

It was a pulsating encounter as Dolphins really look determined to win from the blast of the whistle, in the 56th minute Dolphins attacker Abitimi was brought down 25yards from and the deciding free kick would prove to be the difference between the sides.

David forced a magnificent save off Oghogho Oduokpe on the 32nd minutes, but Musa missed out from a glaring opportunity to put the visitors in front five minutes to the break, when Rotimi misjudged Olurundare's low cross. Musa would only chip above the woodwork from six yards.

Dolphins had to wait till the 56th minute for a breakthrough, when defender, Jonathan Zikiye curled in an absolute screamer of a free kick 25 yards out.
David produced a stunning save to keep out Asamoah's header on the 75th while Joseph Douhadi had to clear the lines late on, as Rotimi's mistake almost gifted the visitors an equalizer.

Coach of the Port-Harcourt side, Eguma said after the game, he is confident his side will beat the drop and stay in the top flight next season.
"We are optimistic we will come out if relegation zone. I am happy with the result and I praise Zikiye for that goal.
My strikers are not playing as a unit. They will blend with more playing time together". Eguma added.

Wikki Tourist 2-0 Abia Warriors

Mubarak Umar completed a brace as Wikki Tourist of Bauchi outclassed Abia Warriors of Umuahia 2-0 at Tafa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi in a Match Day 24 midweek fixture which the Bauchi side dominated from start to end.

The match played under closed door saw both teams in a slow start trying to avoid defeat. The two teams did not really play up to expectation of football pundits but it was the hosts that showed clear intent even as they were forced into an early substitution due to injury. The only highlight of the first half of the match was the late goal scored at the dot of first half by Mubarak Umar of Wikki Tourists.

On resumption of the second half within the space of three minutes Umar doubled the lead for the host team. This brought out the best in their opponents but that was to last for just 15 minutes. What seemed to be a hat-trick for Umar was cleared off the goal line by Ogbonnaya Okemmiri of Abia Warriors towards the end of the game.

Interestingly, it was the fairest of fixtures as both teams completed the 90 minutes with no player cautioned. The Centre Refree, Nasiru Ibrahim's sense of judgement was never in doubt as he had a fantastic officiating. It was significantly the first win for the Wikki Tourists since the resumption of the second round of the 2014/15 Glo Premier League and second win on the trot after their fifth away win recorded in Ilorin against Kwara United.

FC Taraba 0-0 Bayelsa United

Heartland 1-0 Kwara United

There was a man of the match performance at the Dan Ayiam stadium by Heartland's Julius Ubido as Heartland laboured to a slim 1-0 victory over Kwara United in a Match Day 24 fixture of the Glo Premier league, Wednesday.

It was the first match in front of their home fans since Match Day 10 when the Naze millionaires became journey men, playing home games at the Rojenny stadium and once in Port Harcourt.

The home team came out of the woods quite early and pressurized their visitors high up in their own half, leaving the Afonja Warriors dazed by their host's dominance in possessional play, creating telling passes that they failed to make count.

The visitors could only create a chance in the opening 25 minutes when new recruit from Akwa Starlet, Essobe Chukwudi making his debut made a good run into the homers box after beating two defenders neatly but with a failing to cash in on a glorious opportunity at sight. He shot wide.

Prior to that act, Ubido did run the show by sending lovely crosses into the opposing box but as usual there was either no one in sight or those reached failed to connect properly. He also took his trademark free kicks in the edge of the box but nothing worked in their favour.

The visitors tried as much as they could especially in the second half when they took the game to the homers but Emmanuel Iwu in Heartland's goal was rarely troubled.
The Naze millionaires played a very tactical game, keeping the opponents at bay but popping up with chances from time to time though they could not increase their tally, Emeka Ogbugh their biggest culprit.

Ebere Odiche almost did in the closing moments as a long range cracker from the edge of the box beat Yekeen but hit the post.

Still to come before we say bye bye to matchday 24

Sharks - Lobi Stars
Ifeanyi Ubah - Akwa United
Giwa - Enugu Rangers
Shooting Stars - Nasarawa United

These teams did'nt play on wednesday because of their involvement in the federatios cup
they square up against each other in a week from now on 26th August 2015.

I Hate Jay-Jay Okocha - Oliseh blurts

New Super Eagles manager Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh has come out to clear the air about his hatred and animousity between him and Ex super eagle captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.

Recall that Okocha was deputy skipper of the eagles to Oliseh, up to 2002, and Jay-Jay later on accepted the role to become captain of the squad heading to the 2002 world cup in korea and japan.

All you need to know about the Newest Super Eagles Invitee and Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme

Ikeme

Enter Carl Ikeme, one of the first names to be mentioned by Coach Sunday Oliseh in his "No-form-No-Invitation" team list. Mikel misses out on Chelsea Vice-captaincy as Ivanovic gets the nod

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel has been snubbed for the role of Chelsea's vice captain as Serbian defender, Branislav Ivanovic is preferred in his place.
Ahead of Chelsea's pre-season tie against New York, the Serb was informed of his new role ending speculations about the Nigerian assuming that role.

With a total of 224 appearances, the former Lyn Oslo man is currently Chelsea second longest serving player after skipper, John Terry with Ivanovic coming third with 215 appearances.

Ivanovic, as is only to be expected, is honoured to be asked to assume the senior position.
‘I am really so happy,’ the 31-year-old tells the official Chelsea website.

‘I am very proud of that, to be the vice-captain of this team. This is something extra for me, more responsibility, and I will try to do it well for the team.

‘I am doing what I was doing before, trying to do my best. I will try to do that in the future as well but basically not a lot of things change. John Terry is the real captain and leader.’

The vice-captain position has been undertaken for many years by Frank Lampard with Didier Drogba and Petr Cech deputizing for the Englishman.

Meanwhile, Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has voiced out his view about the Chelsea captaincy saga tipping Mikel to become the club's captain in the future.

“Mikel is, after John, the guy with most years of Chelsea,” Mourinho told Dailymail.co.uk

“I think (Cesc) Fabregas has personality for a captain too. Eden is coming with big status now and was voted one of the top 10 players in Europe last year.

“In my opinion he should be in the top three not in the top10. Let’s see what is going to happen but we have these people. But let’s say John and Branislav are our captains and the others are ready to come,” he said.

Mikel recently ended speculation over his Chelsea future by insisting he is happy at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old was linked with the likes of Al Ain and Fenerbahce during the transfer window but remained with the Blues despite the interest.

Why Oliseh is a big gamble to Nigerian football

“No, no, that cannot be, he can’t be Super Eagles coach. Oliseh cannot, no, he can’t, If the Nigeria Football Federation is bringing Oliseh to
handle the Super Eagles, then that is too bad because it is not right. It is not proper, he is not the right man for the job.” Former Nigeria coach, Clemens Westerhof queried.

A calabar boy doing great things in Kano

Kano Pillars new hit man, Godspower Aniefiok Tower made his third consecutive start for the League cup holders in the Match Day 16 fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors and believes he has settled down enough to help the club reverse some of their recent floundering performances.
His substitution on Match Day 14 against Dolphins set the fans against Coach Okey Emordi after the encounter finished 2-2.
Pillars were recently beaten by Warri Wolves, Sunshine Stars and Rangers International while drawing 2-2 with Dolphins in Kano to drop out of the top four places on the log.
Tower has in contrast to the club’s fortune enjoyed positive reviews following his debut start against Dolphins in which he scored and followed up with another goal in their 2-1 defeat to Rangers International in Enugu on Match Day 15.
Their 1-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors in their last game could only push them two spots from 9th to 7th and they go to Uyo this Sunday against Akwa United, the club that gave Aniefiok his first Premier League break.
Aniefiok had made the switch from Akwa United last season to link up with the champions only to find himself play his first game as a substitute in their CAF Champions League clash away to Al-Malaikia of Sudan.
He then made his first appearance in the league still as a substitute in their 1-0 loss to Warri Wolves on Match Day 11 before grabbing a first team shirt against Dolphins on Match Day 14.
Aniefiok says he is happy with the progression of his career at Kano and not perturbed by the initial limited roles he has had to play in their campaign.
“I was not worried before now for the lack of playing time at Pillars since the season started. I think it was the best decision by the technical crew to keep me on bench and I am not complaining about that because their decision is always for the success of the team.
“I am happy to have made my first start against Dolphins in Week 14 and i proved my worth to the fans. That is just a tip off the iceberg because I am now ready to take the team back to their traditional position. I also urge the fans to be patient with us as very soon we will bounce back”, pleaded the offensive midfielder who started off at the Greater Tomorrow Sports Academy in his home state of Akwa Ibom State in 2008.
His quest for a professional career will lead him to the Flying Sports Academy in Festac Town, Lagos State in 2011 and after two years, Aniefiok returned to the Greater Tomorrow Academy from where he was invited to play for Akwa United for his first professional stint in 2013. He was only registered for the Federation Cup competition but never kicked the ball before their elimination. But he made his mark in the league, scoring five goals in a handful of appearances for the Uyo Promise Keepers in that his first season.
That impressive showing for Akwa United did not go un-noticed by the National U-23 team coach, Samson Siasia who extended an invitation to the player but he had to excuse himself from their camp following the death of his father in their native Uyo town.
Now he has completely shaken off the emotional problems of his dad’s death, Aniefiok has declared intent to get back to the national team believing he is at the top of his game.
On his national team ambitions, the tall “I am playing at a very top form now as you can see with two goals in two matches, one apiece against Dolphins and Rangers. I hope to improve on the five goals of my first season at Akwa United by scoring more goals for Pillars.
With a good form I can get a National team call-up, but my immediate priority is to help my team maintain the record of winning trophies, that will also help me to win my first league title”.
On the mentality at Kano Pillars, he said the entire squad is looking to mount a formidable challenge for the Federation Cup title to assuage the club Management that has not been happy with their inability to win the trophy over the years.
“We are working out strategies to win the Federation Cup for the first time because the management has complained bitterly about the trophy that has eluded us in the past seasons. They (management) has giving us the boost and mandate to go all the way and win the cup. God willing this is our season”, he asserted.
In the match against Dolphins, the fans protested the substitution of Aniefiok after he netted the second goal and they took it out on Coach Okey Emordi at the end of the game, calling him names. Aniefiok says the fans in Kano are wonderful not for their reaction to his substitution but because “the fans are very accommodating and loving. I like them and they just want to see me play. The environment is also good for me…I love the place”.
