All you need to know about the Newest Super Eagles Invitee and Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme

Ikeme

One feature many has complained about in the Super eagles set up is that many of the invitees are hitherto bench warmers in their respective European club sides, this problem is what new super eagles coach sunday oliseh is looking to address, by droping household names like Mikel, Moses, Ideye and co, and giving a call-up to the likes of Anthony Ujah, Rabiu Ibrahim, Lukman Haruna to mention but a few.
Enter Carl Ikeme, one of the first names to be mentioned by Coach Sunday Oliseh in his "No-form-No-Invitation" team list. The 29 year old Bristish born goalkeeper is the first choice GK for English championship side Wolverhampton wanderers, the shot stopper decided to represent Nigeria ahead of birth country England, but is yet to play for Nigeria until his recent call-up by Oliseh.

Ikeme came through the Wolves academy system and was even named in the first team squad as far as the 2003-2004 season but he was only a fringe player eventually making his a loan move to Accrington Stanley later in 2004, making his seniour debut on 16th of october 2016.

In the 2005-2006 season Ikeme eventually made his first team debut for Wolves after playing second choice for most of the campaign, in 2008 he replaced Wayne Hennessy as the Wolves first choice keeper but was later ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury, Wolves would go on to win the championship and return to the premier league.

He was later sent out on loan to English league one side Chalton in 2009 as a back-up for first choice goalkeeper Robert Elliot making 5 appearances in that season, he was also sent out o loan to clubs like Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield united, Leichester city, Middlesbrough and Doncaster Rovers before enventually returning to Wolves in 2012, where he currently is the first choice GK.

Famous Blunder:
Every goalkeeper makes mistakes and Ikeme is no different in march 2013 he conceded a bizarre own goal during a league game against Bristol City, when he allowed a David avis backpass to go between his legs and roll over the line.  Ikeme was substituted at half time, and it was later confirmed that he had broken his hand during the interval by punching a tactics board in the dressing room in frustration at the incident. This injury kept him out for the remainder of the season, which ended in relegation to League One.

Finally a call-up to the Eagles is his reward but the probabilty of him being invovled in action for the super eagles in the AFCON qualifiers against Chad is very low given that super eagles first choice GK and captain Vincent Enyeama is also in the fray.
