Nigeria crush Chad in AFCON 2017 Qualifier

The Super Eagles started their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series on a good note, by beating Chad 2-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.
Stephen Keshi gave international debuts to Kingsley Madu, William Troost-Ekong and Anthony Esiti on his comeback as handler of the national team, while
captain Vincent Enyeama made his 101st appearance becoming the highest-capped Nigerian player ever.

The former African champions struggled to impose themselves in the first half, but it was the visitors who came close to taking the lead.Vincent Enyeama
produced a superb save to keep the score goalless at the break.

Gbolahan Salami’s fierce shot gave Nigeria the lead in the 62nd minute of the game. Watford striker Odion Ighalo scored a second from the penalty spot, before Ogenyi Onazi was shown a red card.

Elsewhere, Kyah Simon’s brace gave Australia a valuable 2-0 victory over Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup™.

USA and Sweden battled to a scoreless stalemate in the other group game, meaning the American now top the group on four points, followed by Australia with three. Nigeria and Sweden are rooted at the bottom of the log with a point each.

Nigeria face a difficult task as they realistically need victory against USA to progress to the knockout stages, while an exciting match in prospect awaits the Edmonton crowd, when the Matildas face Sweden on Tuesday.
