Iheancho will be ready for Eagles says Dad

James iheanacho, know him? Well then you must know his son Kelechi, who featured prominently for the golden eaglets at the under 17 world cup in UAE Last year.

Kelechi iheanacho who shone like a million stars in that competition won the golden ball and the silver boot in the tournament as well as a winners medal.
He's heroics made Mancity of England to come knocking on a pre-contract agreement for a reported £300,000, since he's still under 18 he couldn't secure a work permit in England and was loaned by City to Columbus crew of the MLS in America.

His talent has led to fans calling for his invitation to the super eagles, his father told reporters in Abuja that his son will be ready when called upon by his fatherland "Kelechi is a very talented footballer and we all know what he can do, he can play with his mates and even his seniors, if he is invited to the super eagles today he will surely do well, he is still as good as he was at the world cup and his football is getting better everyday, when the time comes for him to represent his country he will shine" he said.

FAN VIEW..Stephen Keshi,time to go

Nigeria, the reigning champions of Africa won't be
in Equatorial Guinea to defend their title next year. A victory over South Africa would have been enough irrespective of what happened in Khartoum, a 2-2 draw with the Bafana Bafana apparently wasn't enough to get us to the showpiece.

Blames have been apportioned to different quarters, who should take responsibility and who shouldn't, Keshi, the NFF or the Super Eagles.
The truth is, all the aforementioned parties contributed to our failure to qualify for the showpiece billed for next year.

However, this piece isn't centred on analysing the role each party played, that would be a post for another day, rather it will discuss Stephen Keshi and his role and why he has to pay for it.
Calling for Keshi to be sacked as the title suggests doesn't mean am in oblivion of what he has achieved, the successes he has enjoyed, but one thing life has taught me is to never dwell too much on the past.

Since the Super Eagles last won the AFCON in South Africa, the team has stagnated. Our football has been characterised by lethargic display, low execution of ideas, lack of structure and I must confess watching the eagles play has been painful, punishing and agonising. The performance of Ahmed Musa and Emmanuel Emenike against South Africa  highlighted this.

Football managers are judged on results, this is normal and Keshi shouldn't be an exception. With him, we had a wonderful beginning, but now the future is bleak. This doesn't change the fact he is a good manager, and as he always said he will get another job soon enough if he is eventually fired.

Whatever your views about him are, the truth still remains that by failing to qualify us for next year's AFCON, he has failed spectacularly. Failure comes with paying a price, although many contributed to his failure, it is only logical and reasonable that he takes full responsibility.

Let me end this piece by thanking the team behind this wonderful blog for this wonderful opportunity given to me. God bless.

Keshi staying put-Pinnick

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that Stephen Keshi will continue as the coach of the Super Eagles, in a development that will come as a surprise to many.

The 44-year-old NFF boss has also confirmed the new set-up of the technical department of the NFF.
The embattled NFF boss was speaking about the new NFF technical department that will be led by former Super Eagles coach, Amodu Shuaibu, and confirmed that Keshi will continue as the Super Eagles coach.

“We have Shuaibu Amodu as the technical director, he was boss to Keshi. Keshi is the head coach, he has won everything and he is still going to work. ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is the head of the technical study group and Felix Anyansi-Agwu, one of the most successful club administrators in the country today, is the head of the technical committee and with these people I don’t think you can go wrong,” Pinnick said.

This comes on the heels of Pinnick absolving the out-of-contract Stephen Keshi of any blames, rather criticizing the players for not having the right ‘attitude’ to qualify the country for the AFCON.

But it will come as a bit of surprise also, seeing that Pinnick had earlier sacked Keshi, replacing him with Amodu – albeit on an interim basis – and announcing that a foreign coach would be appointed, before Keshi was believed to have been returned on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Aluko Going No where

The Nigeria international striker was axed in the wake of City's shock 1-0 defeat at Burnley 19 days ago, and didn't even make the bench for last Sunday's 2-1 beating by Tottenham at the KC Stadium.

But Aluko, who joined the Tigers on a free from Rangers two years ago, has no intention of quitting.

The 25-year-old has made only five Premier League outings this season.
But he said: "I am with Hull and I'm happy playing for my team.

"My club coaches believe in what I contribute to the team, so I concentrate on who I am playing for and don't bother myself with anything else.

"I also don't let any speculation get into my head because I train a lot and work hard to improve my game every day."

Aluko is set to be recalled to the squad for Saturday's trip to Manchester United.

Onazi, not Keshi Culpable for Nigeria's woes

Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has been faulted as part of the reason Nigeria failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
A Super Eagles player said on the condition of anonymity, that the Lazio man ignored instructions to shield the defence in search of personal glory.

“A lot have been said about why we failed to qualify, but most are far from the truth. For instance why was it that we struggle less when Hope Akpan plays in front of the defence?” said the source.
“It's ironic that Mikel Obi best games of the qualifiers were games that Akpan played in as he sits and allow Obi roam upfront without leaving any space behind unlike Onazi.

“Nigerians should also ask him why he missed training the eve of the game and tried to lie. What family issue kept him out?”
The player pointed out that Onazi ignored the coach’s instruction as he felt slighted that Mikel took all the glory after the Nigeria Afcon 2013 triumph.
“His relationship with Mikel is zero, Keshi noticed it during preparations for the World cup, he now wants to score goals as opposed to his primary role,” added the anonymous player.

“He felt Mikel got a lot of plaudits while he was ignored despite playing a role in his success at the Afcpn 2013, he cost us the game against South Africa.”
Both players had a public fallout in front of the camera on the pitch in the Eagles 2-0 away win against Congo in Pointe Noire, a situation our source said snowballed into the South Africa game.

“Mikel is a senior player in the team and highly experienced and for Onazi to openly challenge him shows you how bad it is between them,” continued the source.
“Onazi is playing under instructions to cover for Obi who is short of pace on the counter, but look at both South Africa goals, where was he?

“These days he plays for himself more than the team, you can see how he hits shots waywardly even when a pass is a better option, he has to grow up.”

Onazi said on his twitter handle "people are really looking for attention with the nonsense they say, but we will allow God to fight for us."

Nigerian Duo Progress in Europe

Ikechukwu Uche was in action for 71 minutes as Villareal played out a 2 all draw with visiting German giants, Borussia monchengladbach.

The results leaves the group open as the Germans top the group with 9 points followed by Villareal on 8,then Fc Zurich on 7 points. The last round of games will decide which of the teams to progress.

Efe Ambrose started his first game in close to two months as Celtic were humiliated 3-1 at home by Red Bull Salzburg. Celtic on eight points qualify  to the next round of the competition as runner up to the Austrian outfit who top the group on 13 points.

At the weekend Hernanes replaced Joel obi, the reverse was the case when Inter defeated Russian side Dnipro 2-1 at San siro in the europa league.
Joel Obi came on in the 60th minute to help the Italian outfit to victory.

It was two wins in two for Roberto Mancini as they also booked their place in the next round of the competition.

Nigeria skipper Vincent Enyeama was in action as club, Lille drew 1-1 away to Fc Krasnodar.
Enyeama was on ground as early as the eight minute when Joaozinho's inswinging corner threatened to creep under the crossbar to tip the ball over.

Nolan Roux cancelled Ari's goal in the 78 minute as the bottom two teams in the group shared the spoils.
Everton top the group on 11 points, wolfsburg second with 7, Lille on 4 points.

Krasondar has been eliminated with the draw while Wolfsburg will be eliminated if they lose in France.

Step up or Step out -Aziz Yildrim

For those of you wondering who Aziz Yildrim is, well he's the chairman of Fernabahce FC, club of Nigeria super eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike. The chairman is reported by turkish daily to be sick and tired of his big names including Emenike, names like musa Sow, Emre, Diego Alves and Meireles have all popped up as possible ship outs in the next transfer window for their poor displays. The Fernabahce chief is reported to describe Emenike as being wasteful and selfish in front of goal with view of his performance against Bursaspor and is said to have grown impatient with the Nigerian.
Reports also indicates that Emenike doesn't have a cordial relationship with teammates and have sometimes disobeyed coach kartel's orders. Emenike has seven appearances in ten for the turkish outfit so far.

Nigeria stand still in FIFA Rankings

Nigeria's Super Eagles remain in 42nd place in the latest FIFA Rankings released for November.
The Super Eagles, who failed to qualify for the 2015 AFCON , played in three fixtures since the last rankings, a friendly win against Ghana, a victory over Congo-Brazzaville away, and the draw against South Africa.

However with no official fixtures scheduled for the next few months, the Super Eagles may see themselves continue to free fall in the rankings.
Last month they dropped five places from 37th, and the previous month they dropped three spots from 34th.
we just hopes it gets better for the super eagles soon, we need to get back to the glory days when we where ranked 5th in the world.

Oba-Dempsey, Best tag team in MLS history?

Obafemi Martins rolled the ball with the teeth of his boot, ready to spring at the edge of the penalty area. Clint Dempsey flew around him on the right. But the Nigerian’s flick went one way and Dempsey, the other. For once, Seattle Sounders’ strikers were not on the same page. The attack broke down.

The Nigerian’s arms flew into the air and slapped down at his hips. He says he “gets along with everyone off the pitch,” but Martins’ face twisted in disappointment and blame. Dempsey, an American icon who once put his fist through a window when left off a starting XI, chased his team-mate and put a finger in his face. Heated words were exchanged. You did not need to be a lip-reader to know tempers were flaring toward red.

You might think the two just do not get on, or that nerves were frayed over poor form. But it is just not so. The Sounders are flying. Obafemi Martins and Clint Dempsey are among the best attacking duos in Major League Soccer history, and their understanding on the pitch is as close as you get to telepathy in the game today.

They scored 32 of the team’s 66 MLS goals this season. That is nearly fifty per cent of Seattle’s scoring output this term, not counting their 20 assists.

“We have fun out there,” Martins, compact and threatening like a coiled snake on the field, he said. “Sometimes we disagree, but show me two players who don’t. We have a connection. If I get the ball, he knows I’ll look for the right pass. I know he will too. Dempsey knows the game.”

It often looks like Dempsey and Martins are playing their own little game, looking only for each other. Buzzing around the attacking third, sniffing openings, they drag defenders out of position. They roam the tight spaces like predators, looking for the smallest pockets or cracks to exploit. “Playing with Oba is like playing pick-up,” said Dempsey, a veteran of.     three FIFA World Cups™. He is USA’s captain and ranks among the country’s best-ever players. National team coach Jurgen Klinsmann uses words like “hungry” and “driven” to describe him. “The two of us link up and it’s always fun.”

Speaking the same language

Football is a language. As spectators we are drawn to teams and players who communicate most harmoniously, most poetically, most often. The triangles Dempsey and Martins carve with the ball between them seem infinite. They are demanding. Their standards are high.

Martins is 30-years-old and Dempsey 31. They took different paths to the rainy Pacific Northwest, but both were forged in hardship. Martins grew up playing in the crowded streets of Lagos, Nigeria. He left home early, his lightning speed and explosiveness catching the eye in Italy. “It happened so fast, I was dizzy,” Martins said of leaving his family as a teenager and moving to a new continent.

Dempsey grew up in rural poverty, the fourth of five children, in the US state of Texas. His father, a carpenter, struggled to shuttle him the long distances to training, to nurture the talent his son showed early. Dempsey’s sister died of a brain aneurysm when the two were only teenagers.

Dempsey’s best moments came in London, at Fulham, where he pushed the modest Cottagers to a UEFA Europa League final and became a club legend. A move to Tottenham Hotspur was a disappointment and so came the big-money transfer back to MLS, where he began his career. Martins threatened to become one of the top strikers of his generation early on, but he ended up wandering Europe. A star-turn at Inter Milan behind him, he moved to Newcastle United in the north of England, then to Rubin Kazan, Birmingham City, and eventually Levante in Spain. Stuck in the quicksand of fading reputation, Martins saw Seattle as a fresh start.

“I’m not as fast as I used to be,” the Nigerian said with a chuckle, but he still leaves defenders in his dust every week. “I like to have the ball at my feet now, to play a little football.” Dempsey continues to live by an old creed: “I play with a lot of heart and I do all I can to help get a win.”

The Sounders’ hit-men were held goaless in the Western Conference final first leg against LA Galaxy at the weekend. But do not bet against the Oba-Dempsey tag-team at home next Sunday with a spot in the league’s one-off championship decider, MLS Cup, on the line. “We just put them together,” Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. “Practice or game, it doesn’t matter. They know what to do.”

Udinese joins Queue for Egwuekwe

Udinese Calcio has reportedly enquired about the services of Warri Wolves central defender, Azubuike Egwuekwe.

The Serie A side, according to sl10.ng, faces competition for the 25-year-old as English Championship side, Watford, is also interested in signing the big defender.

The report says his Nigerian club is willing to do business with serious clubs that want the services of the Super Eagles defender.

The defender will cost between £100,000 and €200,000, sl10.ng says.
Egwuekwe came through the Yerima Strikers football system and also played for Nasarawa United in the past.

Akpoborie identifies politics as the Bane of our football

Former  super eagles striker Jonathan Akpoborie gave an interview yesterday where he identified politics as the bane of our football, really you can't agree more, given the state of our football presently, we are always escaping the FIFA Hammer by whiskers, the court cases, player bonus sagas, it just goes on and on. Now Akpoborie identified the rank and file of the NFF as the beneficiary of all the hullabaloo and hence the reason why they continue in the power/politcs tussle. He insisted that a politics free football would definitely benefit Nigeria football and bring us what is obtainable in other developed footballing countries,  "Politics is actually destroying Nigerian football, in Nigeria when we draw up a plan its always scuttled by politics.”
” If we want to enjoy the game like the Europeans we must separate football from politics. I don’t feel sorry for the Football Federation board members because they benefited from their political connections, so they must face the consequence." said the Ex super eagles striker.

Ideye's Can Of Worms

Nigeria striker Brown Ideye joined WestBromwich Albion for £10 million in the summer of 2014 as the club record signing from Dynamo Kiev with high hopes and expectations from Albion fans.

Before joining the Baggies, Ideye scored 33 goals in 74 matches for the Ukranian outfit which is a relatively impressive goal return.

The former youth international on his arrival at the Hawthorns, boss Alan Irvine said: "He's a strong, quick, powerful player who likes to get behind defences with champions league and international experience."

The 26 year old has only managed six appearances with half that figure coming in the capital one cup and has found the back of the net just once in Albion's 3-2 victory over Hull city also in the capital one cup. His last game for the club was in a 2-1 loss to championship side Bournemouth in the same competition on tuesday 28 october.

Meaning, the Nigerian has been out of the team for close to a month and is yet to score in the premier league since joining in July. He has been criticized by fans and occasionally doesnt even make the match day squad. He said "I have found it difficult but people can't criticise, pull me down or have a gun on my head for not playing."

So where did it go wrong for Ideye?

Club record tag and fee hasn't helped his course as expectations to deliver has been very high. Country man, Peter Odemwingie became one of the greatest player in the club's history after breaking the goal scoring record joining for a relatively small fee from Russian side, Locomotive Moscow. The reverse is the case in Ideye's situation as he joined for a high fee and is yet to make any impact.

Secondly, his poor run of form has been a blessing for another as English prospect Saido Behraino seem to be the benefactor of the striker's situation. He has been ever present in the team scoring eight goals so far this season.

Injury has also been another obstacle to the 26 year old as he has struggled to keep fit this season. In his absence country man, Victor Anichebe and former Celtic striker Georgios Samaras has risen above the former Ocean boys man in the pecking order.

Whatever the case is, the next few weeks will decide his fate at the club. With the hectic festive period on the cards, the Nigerian has to step up his game if he is to stand any chance of replicating his Dynamo form or repaying the club for investing such hefty sum on him.

Injury Blow for Moses

Stoke winger Victor Moses faces at least six weeks on the sidelines with a 'significant' thigh injury.

Moses, on loan at the Britannia Stadium from Chelsea, has been in fine form in recent weeks but was injured in the 2-1 Premier League defeat by Burnley on Saturday.

"It's bad news on Victor Moses, a problem with his thigh," assistant manager Mark Bowen said.

Victor Moses This Season

PL Apps: 10
Goals: 1
Assists: 3
Chances Created: 20

"He will be out with anything up to six to eight weeks. It's a big hit. He had a scan and it's not good.

"At the moment we're deciding with Chelsea whether to go back and have the rehab there or stay with our team"

Victor Moses will miss the opportunity to play against Liverpool were he spent an unproductive loan spell last season.
