FIFA U20 World Cup: Errors ensure Flying Eagles begin with a loss

In the wee hours of this morning, while Nigeria slept our dear Flying Eagles lined up did battle against. Brazil U-20 but Sadly our Flying Eagles could not break the jinx we have against the selecao at this level, having not beaten Brazil in 5 meetings.

It was a lively afternoon at the New Plymouth Taranaki Stadium in New Zealand, our eagles appeared lovely in the new Nike Jersey all green and pretty, while the Brazilians appeared in their traditional yellow and blue shorts.

Flying Eagles starting XI: Joshua Enaholo, Musa Mohammed (c), Mustapha Abdullahi, Zaharadeen Bello, Wilfred Ndidi, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ifeanyi Matthew, Musa Yahaya(72' Savior Godwin), Kelechi Iheanacho(74Kingsley Sokari)- Isaac Success, , Taiwo Awoniyi

The game lived up to its billing of being exciting and breathtaking. There was a goal to celebrate inside 4 minutes when Jao Pedro's low cross was met by Gabriel Jesus, who finished from close range to put Brazil 1up.

The Flying Eagles responded with vigor, hitting the post 3 minutes from that goal, and then 7 minutes from going down Isaac Success collected Musa Yayaha's through ball swiftly, rounded the Brazilian GK and cooly slotted into the empty net to draw level.

The Goal rejuvenated the Nigerians who capitalized on the momentum to add another goal Musa yahaya beat his man neatly to fire into roof of the net to give the African champions a 2-1 lead.

Gabriel Jesus, scorer of Brazil's 1st, then turned provider as he backheeled through Ndidi's legs into the path of Judivan who steadied himself and fired home to bring the south americans level at 2-2.

The goals didn't dry up for Brazil as the charade of errors began for Nigeria, as errors after errors where capitalized on by the Brazilians which eventually left a bitter taste in our mouths.

First, Boschilia put them in front just before the hour-mark with a low 25-yard shot that swerved wildly before clipping the inside of the post on its way in. Then a calamitous error by Joshua Enaholo gifted Brazil the points, with the goalkeeper allowing the ball to squirm through legs and enabling Judivan to s mash the ball home from a few centimetres out
