The Man we backed won, but did we back the right man??

The FIFA presidential election has come and gone, but the Shockwave it generated still reverberates around the world of football.

The election was keenly contested prior to Friday, with the likes of Louise Figo and Prince Ali challenging Sepp Blatter's 16 year reign at the helm. Figo eventually pulled out of the race leaving Prince Ali to challenge Blatter


Then came the corruption scandals that indicted at least 6 top ranking FIFA officials but this didn't deter the FIFA President who kept on at his ambition of returning as President for a record 5th time.

Blatter relied on backing from Africa and America for majority of his votes and they delivered didn't they? 
The Nigeria Football Federation for one backed Sepp blatter re-election bid and surely Amaju Pinnick cast his ballot for the 79 year old Blatter.

And yes he(blatter) did win, but that win hasn't gone down well with some parts of the footballing world who think Mr Blatter needs to step down and allow the younger generation manage football.

UEFA for one is threatening to pull out of all FIFA organized events if MR Blatter assumes control, and looking at it critically you begin to wonder the possibility of that giving that European teams will be deeply involved in the FIFA women world cup and the FIFA U-20 WC, coming up next month and this month respectively.

Considering that Mr Blatter is 79 years now, he'll be 84 by the time his tenure is over, a fact that makes one wonder if the FIFA presidency is the birthright of Mr Sepp Blatter. 

Nigeria and Africa supported him due to his contributions to African Football but have we done the right thing? 
That remains to be seen.
