Our girls flew out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, aboard an Air France aircraft last night, and arrived in Paris this morning. They are expected to connect another flight to Toronto, Canada where the competition will take place.
On Sunday 17th May, the technical crew dropped eight players from the squad, namely: Chisom Henry, Yetunde Adeboyejo, Chioma Wogu, Onyinyechi Okeke, Gladys Akpa, Ramatu Abdulkarim, Winifred Eyebhoria and Chinaza Uchendu.
The Falcons have appeared in all previous six editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, reaching the quarter -finals in the United States of America in 1999.
Coach Edwin Edem Okon and 10 other officials will travel with the listed players, and two others, skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku and in-form forward Francesca Ordega are set to join the team at the training camp in Toronto.
Okon will use the exercise to trim the rough edges of his team ahead of the start of the tournament due to get underway on 6th June in Canada.
The seven-time African Women's Champions will engage Canada in an international friendly on May 25th in Toronto.
Okon is expected to name the 23 players to defend the colours of Nigeria after the warm-up match.
The Nigerians are housed in group D where they will face familiar foes USA, Sweden and Australia.
The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup takes place in Canada from June 6th to 5th July.
