The gradual upward movement of the Super Eagles on the monthly
FIFA rankings continued on Thursday as the Nigerian national team moved a step
to the 41st spot in the March edition released by the world football governing
body.
The Super Eagles however stayed rooted on the 7th spot on the
African continent as the Desert Foxes of Algeria remains the highest ranked
team in Africa, while Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal and Cape Verde are
the other countries ranked above Nigeria.
As stated by FIFA, seven friendlies were played since the last
edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, five of them in the North, Central
America and Caribbean zone. The world football governing body also explained
that the majority of changes in the March edition of the rankings are as a
direct result of a devaluation of past results.
World champions Germany are still the number one team in the
world ahead of Argentina and Colombia. The first move on the global ladder
concerns Italy, which climbed two positions at the expense of Spain (11th, down
1) to enter the top ten for the first time since June 2014.
