Record Store: The only occasion Nigeria played an international game on January 1st

January 1st is a day set aside to celebrate the new year with friends/family and generally declared as a public holiday all over the world.


But there was an unusual and weird one in which the Nigeria super eagles instead of going on holiday played a football game.

Half a decade after Nigeria's independent precisely on January 1st 1965, the Super Eagles of Nigeria played their first ever and only game on JANUARY 1ST.

The game was played in Nigeria, an All African Game Qualifier against 'the menas' of Niger.

Asuquo Ekpe and Philip were part of the goal-scorers as Nigeria cruised to a 4-0 victory over their neighbors.
